How this username generator works

Handles are built from an adjective and a noun, which is the pattern most memorable usernames follow — it produces something pronounceable and picturable rather than a string of characters. With a keyword supplied, it is shuffled into one of the two slots so the handle is sometimes keyword-first and sometimes keyword-second.

Every result is filtered to characters that are safe across platforms: lowercase letters, digits, and the three separators that services generally accept. Anything else is stripped rather than left to be rejected at sign-up.

Results are capped at twenty characters. Limits vary — some services allow thirty, a few allow only fifteen — but twenty clears the majority, and a handle that has to be truncated differently on every platform is not really one handle.

What makes a good username?

Short, sayable and consistent across platforms. If you have to spell it out or explain the numbers, it is doing you no favours. Avoid anything you would not want attached to your name in five years.

Are these usernames available?

Not checked — availability is per platform and changes constantly. Adding a number substantially improves your odds on any busy service. Check candidates on the platform itself before settling.

Why are results limited to twenty characters?

Because platform limits vary and twenty clears most of them. A handle that has to be shortened differently on each service stops being one identity.

Can I use these as a gamertag?

Yes. The character set was chosen to be safe across gaming platforms as well as social ones, though a few services have their own rules about separators — check before committing.

Should I use my real name?

It depends what the account is for. A professional account benefits from being findable; a gaming or pseudonymous one does not. Generate without a keyword if you want no connection to your real identity.
